Diagnosis of Benign Positional Vertigo
The Dix-Hallpike test (sometimes called the Nylan-Barany maneuver) is used to confirm a diagnosis of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo due to debris in the semicircular canal. The patient is placed in position A, above, and then is tilted back into position B. Patients with BPPV will develop vertigo with nystagmus as in illustration B
